Mrs. Frances Virginia Crumpler Adams, 91, longtime resident of Laurinburg, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Morrison Manor.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Ralph Brown and Patricia Stone. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
Mrs. Adams was born December 29, 1916 in Winston-Salem and was the daughter of the late Grace Taylor and George Hinton Crumpler. She graduated from Salem College in 1937 and the following year obtained a library science degree from UNC-CH. She then came to Scotland County in 1941 as the first librarian for the newly formed county library.
In 1945, Mrs. Adams married J. Erwin Adams, prominent local businessman, who died in 1966. She was also predeceased by her son, John Erwin Adams, Jr. in 1971.
Mrs. Adams is remembered for her many devoted years in the First United Methodist Church choir and as a soloist for many wedding and other occasions. She also served on the church organ committee and for many years was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was a longtime member of the legendary Thursday Afternoon Book Club and the St. Cecelia Music Club. She was also a loyal supporter of Salem College and Wake Forest University.
Mrs. Adams is survived by a daughter, Grace Adams Bean and husband, Judge C. Christopher Bean of Edenton; a son, George Edward Adams and wife, Debbie Brasington Adams of Cheraw, SC; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Moore Adams Todd of Raleigh. Mrs. Adams is also survived by four grandchildren, John Adams of Rock Hill, SC, Laura Adams of Cheraw, SC, Alex Bean of Richmond, VA, and Stewart Bean of Edenton.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to Hospice nurses and staff who provided such loving care to their mother.
