William John Walborn, (85), of Tempe, AZ passed into the hands of his Creator on January 15th 2014. He was the husband of the late Marion Francis Wizar Walborn who died in 1999. He has joined her in Eternity along with daughter Rebecca Susan who succumbed to Cystic Fibrosis at age 7.
Born in Lebanon on May 20, 1928, he was the son of the late Claude William and Mae Hilda Demmy Walborn. During his life he was a teacher, coach, and business manager. He taught at Richland High School and later ELCO Unified High School, as well as Pittman Junior High in Pittman, New Jersey. He coached basketball and played it recreationally well into his thirties. He worked for the Lebanon Chemical Company, Chase & Company of Sanford Florida, Sealtest Foods in Mt. Carmel, Jonas P. Donmoyer Trucking of Ono, and he was Director of Operations for the Church and Dwight Company, Syracuse, NY. Following his retirement, he was an Associate Realtor for Penn Reality, Mt. Gretna.
Bill was a member of the Class of 1946 at South Lebanon High School, where he played baseball, basketball, and soccer as the goalie of the 1946 Lebanon County championship team. He is a graduate of Lebanon Valley College, Class of 1953, and received his Master's Degree from Temple University in 1959. He served in the US Army Air Corp from 1946 to 1949, trained in photo reconnaissance and high altitude bombardment.
He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Lebanon, and attended Praise and Worship Center in Chandler, Arizona.
Surviving are his son Michael John, husband of Zenaida "Sandi" Walborn of Tempe, AZ, grandson Connor Lawrence Walborn and his fiancé Melonie Marie Santeler, her children Cameron, Brooklyn, and great granddaughter Kendell Marie Walborn, grandson Sean Thomas Walborn, granddaughter Rachael Marie Walborn, and Sharon Levin, his companion of the past 12 years and her family, whose lives he touched, and many in-law relatives and friends. He will be sorely missed. He touched many lives as a teacher and friend, and as a volunteer with the Lions and Kiwanis of Friendship Village, Tempe, Arizona. He is remembered for his generosity, punctuality, and as a meticulous planner and organizer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 5055 E. Washington Street, Suite 130, Phoenix, AZ 85034 in his memory.
Graveside services and interment will be held on January 25, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Friedens Lutheran Church Cemetery, Myerstown. No viewing or visitation.
