A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011, at West Market Street United Methodist Church, where he had been a member for more than 50 years. The family will receive friends following the service in the Gathering Space of the church and at other times at their residence.
Bill was a native of Burlington and the son of Essie Dale Green and Colon Reid Love. Shortly after graduating from Burlington High School, he entered the US Army, where he served during WWII in Okinawa. He received his degree from Elon College and worked for G.D. Reddick. During this time, he was involved with the Greensboro Jaycees, where he became a Life Member. He retired after 26 years as Business Manager for Gate City Motor Company. His volunteer work included Meals on Wheels, the Urban Ministry, and his church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Love was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, Henry, Ralph and David Love and also his sisters, Charlotte Franks, Ada B. Kline, Evelyn Dunham, and his twin sister, Betsy Pierson.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Evelyn Love; daughters, Sherrie Love and husband, Robert Kerbow of Temple, TX, Jenny Dye and husband, James of Charlotte; son, Scott Love and wife, Wendy of Marietta, GA; brother, Glenn Love of Burlington; grandchildren, Bridget and Jackson Dye, Gemma and Charlotte Love. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. Bill was blessed to have many good friends, including the members of the Asbury-Covenant Sunday School Class.
