He was born March 20, 1946 in Riverside, California, to the late Vance and Esther (Lundell) Rhudy. He married Carol Mayse August 14, 1976. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Meredith (Andrew) Palmison of Fort Wayne; a son, Mark (fiancée, Khalie Webb) Rhudy of Indianapolis; a brother, Ralph H. (Lillian) Rhudy of Richmond, Virginia; and a sister, Carolyn (Robert A.) Alexander of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
A Goshen resident since 1978, Dave was co-owner and manager of Goshen Hardware for 26 years, 1978 to 2004. From 2005 to 2011he worked as a consultant for Do It Best.
He graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in 1964 and the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1968. Following graduation he served with the Peace Corps for two years in the Fiji Islands before working with ACTION, a federal volunteer agency for four years.
He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Goshen, where he chaired the Community Christmas dinner for six years and served on the Session and many other church responsibilities.
He was a charter member and past president of the Maple City Kiwanis Club.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the 11 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2012, funeral service at First Presbyterian Church, Goshen. Pastor Alan Griffin will officiate.
Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church Foundation, Maple City Kiwanis Club or Outward Bound.
