Martha Maria Pratt was born circa 1825, possibly in New York or Vermont, the daughter of Nathaniel M. Pratt and Euphemia (Nutting) Pratt. She died at the age of 13 years. Her brother, Francis Ashbury Pratt (1827-1902), a mechanical engineer and inventor, was the founder of Pratt & Whitney.
