Born Saturday, September 8, 1945 in Lynchburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late Alfred Campbell and the late Bonnie Owings Campbell. He was the husband of Doris Hinds Campbell.
After 27 years, John retired as a Nuclear Field Engineer for Framatone (Areva). He proudly served his country the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son; Anthony David Campbell and wife, Letty of Chatham; three daughters; Donna Elaine Lambert and husband, Larry of Lynchburg, Connie Sue Marler and husband , Dee of Kokomo, IN. ,Tina Marie Pixton and husband, Jeff of Barboursville, VA.; a sister; Geraldine Campbell Hill of Lynchburg, 12 grandchildren: Sherry Lambert King, David Lambert, Avery Lambert, Sariak Lambert, Kayci White, Kaitlyn Marler, Brennan Pixton, Connor Pixton, Alec Pixton, Derek Pixton, Ronam Pixton, Chelsea Campbell, six great grandchildren Adison King, Great Nicholas King, Great Kaiden King, Miranda Talley, Amira Talley, Terry Talley.
The memorial service in Danville has been combined and will be held in Lynchburg at Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, on January 5, 2013 at 5 p.m.
