Mary Ann was the fifth of ten children born to Frederick Augustus Pryor (1841-1892) and Margaret Jane (Whitford) Pryor (1844-1902). She married Alexander Harwood Miller on Jul. 6, 1892 and with him had eight children: Josiphene and Mary Margaret (1893), Annie Harwood (1895), Henry (1898), Lucy (1899), Nora Ruth (1900), Ripley P. (1902) and Catherine Pauline (1909).
