GREENSBORO Billy Lester Leonard, 67, of 1903 Avis Drive died Sunday, April 3, 2005 at Wesley Long Community Hospital.

Mr. Leonards funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Camp Herman Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Nunn officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Billy Leonard was born in Greensboro on July 2, 1937 to the late Ernest and Ruth Chandler Leonard. A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, known as "Pop," many knew him as someone they could always count on to lend a helping hand. Bill always made his many friends and family feel as if nothing were impossible. He was a musician who played for many years at Green's Supper Club. In high school, Bill played in the Lover Buds with Don Varner and Don heath. When he was 18, he played in a Greensboro quartet called The Rebels with Billy "Crash" Craddock, Ronnie Craddock and Don Varner. Fred Koury gave The Rebels their first big booking at the Plantation and they performed throughout the southeast. Bill also played bass guitar in Jimmy Hollomans combo at Larrys Supper Club. He owned and operated County Motors. Mr. Leonard loved racing and built race cars as a hobby.

Survivors include his wife Bunnye Jewel Leonard of the home; a daughter Leslie Leonard Wells and her husband, Dave; sisters Mary Lou Jones and her husband Roy of Brown Summit and Ernestine Myers and her husband, James of McLeansville; brothers Fred Leonard and his wife, Frankie of Brown Summit and Jimmy Lee Leonard of Greensboro; his beloved grandson Brennen Leonard Wells, the pride and joy of his life; as well as numerous special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street and other times at the residence of his daughter, 8 Teal Court, in Greensboro.
