She was born in Chicago to William and Marie Cochrane on February 27, 1934. She married James Simon in 1952 and moved to Bridgeview. Joan obtained a Master's degree and worked in education as Dean and Vice President of Prairie State College until her retirement in 1999. She was a pillar of her community, founding the Bridgeview Library and Park District, and serving as a Village Trustee for many years.
Joan is survived by her son, James (Bridget) Simon, Jr.; her daughter, Christy Simon (Stanley Wells); grandchildren, Eric (Kali) Simon, Lauren Simon, Rebecca (Timothy) Fuller, and Brian Simon; and great-grandchildren, Ember Simon and Aubrey Fuller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Simon, Sr., and her son, Gary (Nancy) Simon.
