Willis West Jr. was the son of Willis West Sr. and Sarah Gainey (who was the daughter of Bartholomew Gainey). Willis Sr. and Sarah had 10 children. She died and Willis Sr. married Sylvey Harmon and they had 10 children. Willis Sr. and Sylvey, and I believe all of her children, moved to Fayette County, GA in the late 1820's to 1830. A couple of Willis Sr. and Sarah's children may have gone to Georgia as well, and a few of their grandchildren went.
Willis Jr. married Rebecca Gainey and we do not yet know who her parents were. However, there is some speculation that her father was Noel Gainey, a brother to Sarah. If so, then Willis Jr. and Rebecca were first cousins. This needs more research. Rebecca did name her oldest son Noel.
Willis' death notice appeared in the "Fayetteville Observer" at the time. Though it said he died in Cumberland County, he may have died in Sampson County because the paper often carried death notices of residents in adjoining counties.
Other children of Willis and Rebecca were: Noel Eden, John, James Handy, Rebecca, William Henry, Mary Jane, and Wiley Calvin. Places of burial for some of them is not known at this time. Note: There are different spellings for Wiley Calvin West's wife, Pheriba Tart. It has also been spelled as Pherebee and Pherby. Larry Draughon
