Emery V. Anthony passed away on January 14th, 2014. He was born July 2nd, 1922, in Indianapolis, IN to Anna R. and Balint S. Anthony. He graduated from St. Catherine of Sienna grade school and Arsenal Technical High School.
While in school, he worked part time for Emrich Schmid Surgical Instrument Manufacturing Company. After High School, he joined the Allison division of General Motors as a Machine Operator.
In 1942 he joined the Army Air Corps. He graduated from Boeing School of Aeronautics, the Lockheed P-38 Aircraft Specialist School and the Air Service Command Engine Specialist School.
While serving in California, he met many entertainment personalities, such as Mary Pickford, Norma Shearer, Orson Welles, Olivia DeHaviland, Cecil B. DeMille and many others. He was especially proud of having had a private dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Irving Berlin.
He was sent to the South Pacific, where he served in New Guinea, the Philippine Islands and Japan as a Crew Chief. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, and after serving four years, was discharged in 1946.
Returning to Indianapolis he worked for Wm. H. Block Co department store. He then returned to the Allison division of GMI as a machine operator. He was a Job Setter, Production Foreman, Methods Engineer, and Supervisor of Methods Engineering. When he retired after 38 years, he was General Supervisor of Industrial Engineering.
He attended Butler University, Indiana University and was a graduate of Purdue University.
During his work years he was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Barnabas Catholic Church and he was a Junior Achievement Advisor. After retiring, he and his wife, Betty, moved to Florida.
They traveled extensively. His military and civilian travels covered three quarters of the world at the equator, from New Guinea to East Africa. With his wife Betty, he produced and presented multi-media shows of their travels. His hobbies were photography, chess and Egyptology.
After 25 years in Florida they returned home to Indianapolis to be near their daughter Deborah and their grandchildren. He is survived by: his wife, Betty; two daughters, Deborah Anthony Wright and Charissa Tyler; and four granddaughters, Hannah, Madeline and Lucy Wright and Carrie Tyler.
Visitation will be 4-7pm Monday, January 20 at Leppert Mortuary - Nora . The Mass of Christian Burial will be 1pm Tuesday, January 21 at St. Luke Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Indianapolis.
