Callender, Richard Robert
of Scottsdale, Arizona was born on October 18, 1938, in Medford, Oregon, the son of William and Ruth (Daily) Callender. He passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2012, in Scottsdale, Arizona at the age of 74.
Dick was a graduate of Southern Oregon University, taught school in Hood River, Oregon and was a systems analyst for UHaul. He served eight years in the National Guard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Melba; his sister, Patricia Callender, of Milwaukie, Oregon; and his brother, Bill Callender, and wife Matilda, of San Diego, California. Also sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Before his short illness, Dick loved being outdoors, the desert, the mountains, working in the yard, traveling in their Fifth Wheel RV and camping. He loved his childhood home state of Oregon and spent many summers there enjoying the cooler summer weather, rivers and ocean.
Dick's life was celebrated on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Scottsdale, 7025 E. Osborn Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorial contributions be made to their church or the Scottsdale HealthCare Foundation Stroke Services.
