Charles was a farmer, of medium height and slender with dark brown eyes and black hair. He was the son of William Arsen and Sarah "Sally" Teate Commers of Allen County, Indiana and Tennessee. He married Zaidee Mellinger on 20 January 1915 in Wood County, and they had Richard, Mae, and Carrol. Charley died of a fractured skull at the age of 27, leaving his wife and three children.
