Margie J. Kelly, 63, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 8:31 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 while in the company of family members, at her home. Margie was born in McPherson, Kansas on November 29, 1950, a daughter of Bertha Elizabeth (Spencer) and Arthur Leland Mathes. Margie attended the Centerview Country school, McPherson Junior High School, and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1968. She then attended Hutchinson Junior College and Sydney's School of Cosmetology both of Hutchinson. Through the years, Margie worked as a dipper for Peter Pan Ice Cream, was assistant manager for Pizza Hut, worked for Mac Pizza King, was a Lego maker, daycare provider, waitress for Sirloin Stockade, and for Vanguard Plastics she was a receptionist, secretary, literature department and human resources manager and retired as secretary of special education at Early Childhood Center and Head Start.Margie was a member of the McPherson Chamber of Commerce where she served on the Chamber Women's Event Committee and the local HR group. Margie enjoyed playing games, sewing, cross stitch, spending time with family, traveling, watching TV, making jewelry, and watching her granddaughter playing in her sports and other activities.Surviving family members include her daughter, Nickie Blevins and her husband Arlo, of McPherson, Kansas; her granddaughter, Sophie Blevins, of McPherson, Kansas; her beloved dogs Tess and Toby; her sisters, Mary Rodgers and her husband Gaylen, of McPherson, Kansas, Marlene Weber, of McPherson, Kansas, Myrna Norris and her husband Ronald, of Berthoud, Colorado, and Marcia Bacon and her husband Ray, of McPherson, Kansas; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Bertha Mathes.The memorial service will be held at the Countryside Covenant Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2014 with Reverend Jon Black officiating.Memorials are suggested to Women and Children Combating Cancer or the American Cancer Society and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
