Peter V. Carr, 77, of Camillus, passed away Tuesday at Iroquois Nursing Home surrounded by his wife and children. Born and raised in Westvale, he was a longtime resident of Camillus. He was a 1954 graduate of CBA, attended Alfred University, and served in the Army National Guard. Peter retired in 2001 after 17 years with New Venture Gear. He was previously self-employed with Midstate Mechanical Contractors, Inc. He was an active member and communicant of St. Joseph's Church. He was also very active in the community as a member of the Camillus Housing Authority, an organizer of the annual Camillus Memorial Day Parade, and volunteer with the Camillus Ski Association. Peter was the first Democrat elected as councilman of the First Ward in the Town of Camillus. He loved boating on Skaneateles Lake and built his own sailboat. He especially enjoyed spending time with his 16 grandchildren. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Donald V. and Frances M. Carr. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Rosemary Keogh; children, Mary C. (Robert) Fitz of Lititz, PA; Peter V. (Theresa) Carr Jr. of Burnt Hills, Timothy K. (Lisa) Carr of Manhasset, Margaret C. (David) Everett of Old Chatham, and Catherine C. (Kevin) Mahoney of Onondaga Hill; sisters, Mary Ann (Carl) Dobe and Judith Carr, both of Syracuse; brothers, Clinton (Suzanne) Carr of Solvay and Robert Carr of Washington, DC; grandchildren, Michael and Timothy Fitz, Patrick, Nora, Rose and Cormac Carr, James, Caroline and Emma Carr, Brendan, Catherine and Owen Everett, and Conor, Alice, Patrick and Rosemary Mahoney; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Friday, January 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 18 at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Peter will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the of CNY, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204 or to St. Joseph's Food Pantry, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
