Mark Stephen Goldsmith of Nevada City passed into heaven on Jan. 10, 2014. He was 61.

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley. The burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, for family and friends at Mount Tamalpias Cemetery in San Rafael, with a reception to follow.

He was born in San Francisco, Calif., on Sept. 10, 1952, to Olga Goldsmith.

Mark attended San Rafael High School before joining the Air Force. He then relocated to Grass Valley in 1976, became a volunteer firefighter and was promoted to fire chief. Mark was the owner/operator of Grass Valley's own Mark Sports until 1991.


He then became a certified electrician and worked for Nevada County Public Works until his retirement.

Mark was known for his generous heart and love of outdoor adventures. He could always be found enjoying time with family, friends and canine companions.

Our beloved Mark Goldsmith is survived by his mother, Olga; daughters Anastasia and Mellissa; grandson, Michael; and a multitude of extended family and friends who will always honor his golden heart and place in their lives.
