Obituary

Norman Leonard Mason, 86, passed away on Monday morning, January 13, 2014, at Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, FL. Born on January 16, 1927, in Glassport, PA, he was the son of the late James Mason and Alice Shaw Mason.

Norman enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a radioman during World War II and later in the Korean War. After being discharged from the Navy, Norman attended Central Bible College in Springfield, MO, and eventually settled in Pitman, NJ, where he went on to earn a Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision from Glassboro State College, now Rowan University. Norman worked as an educator for more than 20 years, first as an elementary school teacher and later as a principal with the Delran School District. Upon retiring, Norman moved to Rustburg, VA, where he lived on a farm and worked part-time as an armed security guard for J. Crew. He moved to Fruitland Park, FL, in 2000. Norman was a member of the Leesburg Church of the Nazarene in Leesburg.

Over the course of his life Norman enjoyed bird hunting, breeding dogs, operating CB radios and model trains, collecting guns, and tending to his many bird feeders and bluebird boxes. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Robert, and Glenn, and three sisters, Ruth McCracken, Mary Keifer, and Bernice Cox. Norman is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Jeanne Tucker Mason of Fruitland Park, FL; a son, Jeffrey Lee Mason and his wife Evelyn Marie Fahy of Raleigh, NC; a daughter, Debra Mason Kuhn and her husband Philip Craig Kuhn of Abington, PA; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 4:00 PM at the Leesburg Church of the Nazarene (2100 Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard), with inurnment on Friday, January 17, 2014, at 3:00 PM, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL, with the Lake County Honor Guard officiating.
