James Ernest Lafferty, age 68, of Old Turnpike East, Banner Elk, died January 16, 2014, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.

James was born November 9, 1945 in Avery County. He was diesel mechanic and equipment operator for Eggers Construction in Banner Elk.

James is survived by two daughters, Gina Jones and husband Dwayne of China Grove, North Carolina, and Lisa Crouch and husband Gary of Hamptonville, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Whitney Jones of China Grove; three grandsons, Michael Lafferty and Kevin Lafferty, both of Winston-Salem, and Landon Jones of China Grove; one brother, William Lafferty of Banner Elk, and one sister, Louise Lafferty Leasure and husband Buddy of Greensboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Lafferty, Jr., and one brother, John Elbert Lafferty.

Funeral services were held at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Reverend Gordon Noble. Burial in the Fairview Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Lafferty, Jr., and one brother, John Elbert Lafferty. Funeral services for James Ernest Lafferty will be conducted Sunday afternoon, January 19, 2014, at 2:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Reverend Gordon Noble. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o'clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.
