Thelma was born in East Peoria, Illinois on November 12, 1938 to the late Albert and Lola (Shrode) Youngblood. She enjoyed genealogy and playing cards and bingo at the Evansville Association for the Blind. Thelma was a loving mother who cared for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Bates, in 1991; son, Lyle W. Youngblood, in 2015; by her parents; and by nine siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Browning Funeral Home 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN, 47711 with Rev. Jeff Stanton and Chaplain Tom Hubachek officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Browning Funeral Home, and again from 9:00 AM until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
