Frank V. "Tex Valen" Amato

Frank V. Amato passed into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014.

Born in Swoyerville, he was a son of the late Antonio and Lena Furino Amato of West Wyoming. He attended Swoyersville Schools.

Frank was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps. serving in the Pacific theater in World War II as a gunner aboard the air craft carrier Ticonderoga. When he returned home from the war, he and his brothers formed AA Construction Co.

It was then that he launched his career in country music, which spanned nearly 50 years. He was once know as "the Pa. King of Country Music." He shared the stage with country greats such as Hank Williams, Ernie Tubbs, Eddie Arnold, Willie Nelson, Faron Young and many others. He recorded 18 singles, two of which hit the top 10 in the country.

Tex's idol was the Lone Ranger. In his prime,Tex appeared on television and radio shows in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He also did USO tours, taking him to military bases in Newfoundland, Greenland and the countries of France, Germany and Italy. He performed in nightclubs from Boston to Florida.

If Tex wasn't building or remodeling houses, he was playing his "good old country music. He was truly a legend in his time.

He was preceded in death by his parents: infant son, Robert, brothers Luciano, Menzion, Anthony and Patrick Amato; and sister Vivian Pugh.

Surviving are his spouse and love of his life, Patricia A. Evans, daughter, Annette DiCrecio, and her husband, Fred; granddaughters,, Cristine Ktylor and her husband, Jerry, Heather Studenroth ad her husband, Tom, great-grandchildren, Josh, Jill, Shawna and Jayden, brothers Joseph Amato and his wife, Agnes; Michael Amato; sisters Marion Hec and her husband, Edward, Antoinette Cheskiewicz, Rosemarie Ranieli; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be from Anthony Recupero Funeral Hone, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, St. Monica;s Parish, West Wyoming.

Interment will be in the Italian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming, Pa.
