Helen Boncella, 89, of Rome, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcenter. She was born October 18, 1924, in Taberg the daughter of Martin and Frances Kaucha Kruk. On September 25, 1943, she married Chester A. Boncella in St. Patricks Church. He passed away August 9, 1991. Mrs. Boncella worked for General Electric prior to retiring from Varflex Corp. after several years. In retirement, she worked with her son and daughter at Westside News. Helen was an avid BINGO player and a seat was reserved for her every Saturday night in Lee Center. She also enjoyed making trips to area casinos. She is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sally and Otis Seibel, of Rome, Elaine and Patrick McNamara, of Rome, Janet Uvanni, of Rome, and Susanne and Joseph Wilczynski, of Marcy; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald and Patricia Boncella, of Blossvale, James (Marrian Terry) Boncella, of Blossvale, and Thomas and Rosemarie Boncella, of Rome; one brother and sister-in-law, Theodore and Helen Kruk, of Clinton; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Kierpec, Victoria Risley, and Frances Kuc; one brother, John Kruk; and a grandson, Sgt. Michael Uvanni. Helens family would like to thank the Drs., nurses, and staff in Faxton-St. Lukes Critical Care Unit, especially Jodi Luvera, for their wonderful care and compassion. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc.,418 N. George St., Rome, and 11 a.m. at St. Peters Church. Interment will take place in the spring in St. Patricks Cemetery in Taberg. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7p.m. Contributions in Helens memory may be made to the Sgt. Michael Uvanni Scholarship Fund. -
