Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00-5:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Lloyd's memory to Genesis Health Services Foundation, 1227 East Rusholme St. Davenport, IA 52803.
Lloyd was born on February 18, 1931 in Hamilton, MS., the son of Greely and Oleta (Walker) Sanders Sr. He served two years with the Armed Forces. He married Yvonne Hollingsworth on November 2, 1962 in Moline. Together they shared over forty years of wonderful memories with their children, grandchildren, family and friends. Yvonne preceded him in death on March 27, 2004. Later in life, he found great comfort and joy in the time he shared with his significant other, Iona Wigant.
Lloyd ("Dixie") was an operator engineer with Illinois-Iowa Blacktop, Inc., Rock Island, for twenty plus years. Following his retirement, he delivered for Flynn Beverage, Rock Island and Highland Pack, Colona.
Lloyd loved golfing and cherished his three hole-in-one trophies, and was a member of the Golfmohr Golf Club. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing, tending to his vegetable garden, and cheering on the Cubs. His family tradition of cooking big southern breakfasts was enjoyed by all. Lloyd had a ‘heart of gold' and was a ‘man of his word'.
Survivors include his significant other, Iona; his children Rick (Grisel) Sanders, Miami, FL, Cindy (Ed) Kath, Stoughton, WI, Randy (Jacinda) Sanders, Port Byron, and Lori (Todd) Kent, Carol Stream; grandchildren Jessica, Ryan, Colbi, Benjamin, Gennifer, Jade, Zachary and Thomas; great granddaughter, Sophia; sisters, Reba Malone, Betty (Richard) House, and brother, Greely Sanders Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Frances, Ellen, Tommy and Roger.
