Corinne Noyes Breed, 88, of Mystic, died Monday, May 31, 2010 at her home after a brief illness. She was born in Mystic on April 24, 1922, daughter of the late Charles and Fannie (Fish) Noyes. She was married to Edward A. Breed from July 4, 1943 until his death in 1995. Corinne graduated from Stonington High School and Mitchell College before being employed by Electric Boat where she worked in the Drafting Room for eleven years. She went on to teach in local schools and earned her BA in Education in the 1970’s at which time she became a permanent teacher in Preston and later in the Groton School system. She retired at age 70. Corinne had many hobbies and belonged to many local organizations over the years. Gardening and cats were constant sources of joy in her life as well her passion for history, crafts, knitting and painting. Community involvement included the Dennison Society, Garden Club, Historical Society, the Indian & Colonial Research Center, volunteering for the Mystic & Noank Library and the Women’s Club Thrift Shop. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Janice and John McDermott of Amherst N.H., two grandchildren, Kate McDermott currently in Bangkok, Thailand and Brian McDermott of Essex Junction, VT., and a nephew Henry Breed of Clearwater, FL. Friends and family are invited to attend a reception in Corinne’s honor on Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Mystic & Noank Library from 12-2 pm. Lunch will be served.
