Sgt. Daniel Tyler Lee, 28 years of age, of Fort Wright, Kentucky was shot and killed while on a mission serving in Parwan Province, Afghanistan on Wednesday, January 15th, 2014.

Daniel was born on April 4th, 1985, son of Daniel Patrick and Frances "Fran" Lee. He graduated from Dixie Heights High School in 2003, where he played football. In 2007 he enlisted as an infantryman in the United States Army at the age of 24, completing his initial entry training at Fort Benning, Georgia. His first assignment was with the 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, at Fort Lewis, Washington. Daniel rose fast, he served in Iraq on his first tour and eventually earned his Green Beret as part of the elite Army Special Forces unit. He graduated from Army Special Forces training in May of 2013 and was deployed in September in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was scheduled to return in May of 2014. Daniel was assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Daniel's military education included basic combat training, the basic airborne course, the warrior leader's course, the advanced leader's course, the survival, evasion, resistance and escape course and the special forces qualification course. His awards and decorations included the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Basic Parachutist Badge and the Special Forces Tab. He also received a Purple Heart Medal that was given to his family after his death.

Daniel was survived by his wife, Suzanne "Suzy" Schutlz Lee, who was also in the military; a six-month-old son, Daniel Roderick "The Rock" Lee; his parents, Daniel "Dan" and Fran Lee; one sister, Jamie (and Braden) Hahn; his mother-in-law, Song Schultz; his father-in-law, Roderick Schultz; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

Visitations were held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24th, 2014 at St. Agnes Church in Ft. Wright, Kentucky.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place on Saturday, January 25th, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Agnes Church. The Middendorf Funeral Home in Ft. Wright, Kentucky was in charge of the arrangements.

Burial followed at the Mother of God Cemetery in Covington, Kentucky.
