Rev. D. F. Gibler, 85, One of City's Oldest Baptist Ministors, Dies

Rev. Delgamiah Francis Gibler, 85, of 1929 Heaney, one of the oldest Baptist ministers in Houston, died at 8:55 p.m. Friday at the North Houston Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Hillsboro, Ohio, at the family home which was on a tract of land given to his great-grandfather in the Ohio territory grant. His great-grandfather was a captain in the Revolutionary War.

Rev. Mr. Gibler and his wife, who died five years ago, came to Houston 36 years ago. He was a founder of the North Main Baptist Church, and retired several years ago after serving as a city missionary for the Houston Baptist churches. His son, Frank Gibler, was formerly a Houston newspaper man.

Those surviving besides his son are two daughters, Mrs. Lilly Owen and Mrs. Samuel H. Conner, both of Houston; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Collier of Burlington, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. L. R. Pearson and Rev. M. L. Rhodes at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the North Main Baptist Church. Burial will be in the family plot in Hollywood Cemetery. Fogle-West Company is in charge of the services.
