Peter H. Demers, 82, of Berlin NH, passed away on July 2, 2008, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon NH after a long illness, surrounded by his family. He was born in Gorham-Cascade on April 24, 1926, a son of the late Louis and Antoinette (Morin) Demers. He attended local schools and was a lifetime resident of the area.
Following his schooling, Peter enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during WWII. He was awarded numerous medals and decorations and returned home to Berlin following his discharge.
Peter married Jeannette (Labbe) on April 23, 1949; and the two raised five children. The family made their home on Twelfth Street and lived there more than 53 years. Peter was employed by Ware Knitters and later by Converse Rubber Co. as a Stitching Room Mechanic, where he was regarded as the "best' mechanic. He retired in 1985.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating, especially at his Success Camp, "Pete's Palace." The family enjoyed camping and had traveled to Branson, Missouri, and Tennessee. He had also enjoyed several cruises with his wife and a trip to Barbados. He was an avid sports enthusiast, especially when it came to hockey. With Peter, family was first at all times. He loved his family and family barbecues, and any opportunities to spend time with them. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by everyone who knew him.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years, Jeannette; children David Demers and wife Gerry of Berlin, Edmund and wife Debbie of Hopkinton NH, Denis and wife Felicia of South Port FL, Susan Bouchard and husband Norman of Plaistow NH, and Lucie Taylor and husband Ronald of Berlin; brothers Robert Demers and wife Jeanne of Gorham NH, Normand Demers and companion Verle of Gorham, and Ernest Demers and wife Denise of Randolph NH; sister-in-law Donna Glover and husband Donald of Wilson's Mills ME; and brother-in-law Albert Nadeau of Lancaster NH; grandchildren James, Katie, Jeffrey, Sarah, Matthew, Billy, Brian, Devin, Gary, Amy, Ryan, and Wendy; great-grandchildren Ashlyn, Alexander, Carrie, Thalitha, and Glen; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Annett Nadeau, and sister-in-law Mary Lou Demers.
