She was born Gladys Ellen Jones to Annie S. (Goodman) Herman and Louie Jones, but went by Ellen Gladys Herman, surname after her step-father, Ernest Herman. She married William Renton Boyd 24 Jun 1951 in Lebanon, Oregon. William was born 3 Apr 1931 and died 18 Mar 2007, and is buried in Willamette Valley National Cemetery. They had six children together, and adopted two additional children as well.
