Amy Rentz Avery of 104 Wedgefield Dr. Piedmont, South Carolina died Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Bon Secours St. Frances Health System. Amy Rentz Avery, age 42, of Piedmont, South Carolina died, January 11, 2014.

Ms. Avery was born August 16th, 1971 in Pullman, Washington. A native of Baxley, Georgia, she was the daughter of Curtis David Rentz and late Joyce Elaine Fievez Rentz.

She lived in Piedmont South Carolina the last couple of years where she was a member of the Powdersville First Baptist Church. Amy graduated from Brewton-Parker College and earned her Masters of Education with honors at Southern Georgia University. She taught Special Education in the Georgia schools for over a decade. She was very active in her community working with youth and mission ministries of the Southern Baptist denomination. Amy and her mother also mentored many students who were learning English as a second language helping them to adapt to American culture. As a talented singer, she enjoyed participating in the music ministry of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and the Baxley Church of God.

Survivors include her daughter, Grace Elaine Avery of Piedmont, South Carolina; former husband, Gene Avery of Temple, Georgia; father, David Rentz of Baxley; sister and brother in law, Sandy and Paul Fuller of Salem, Oregon; two brothers and sister in law, Barry and Denise Rentz and Andy Rentz all of Baxley; Nieces and nephews, Felicia, Jared and Tonya, Eric and Luke Fuller and Sam and Cydney Rentz.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Donna Vollrath and family as well as the First Baptist Church of Powerdsville for their loving care and support of Amy during the past two years.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Rev. Brad Atkins, Rev. Darrell Quinn and Rev. Lamar Lee will be officiating with Donna Vollrath delivering the eulogy. She will lie in state one hour prior to funeral service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Doy Carter, Dr. Wade Bryant, Gene Butler, John Greco, Ryan Fievez and Felix Rentz.
