Monty Gertrude Gorton, a resident of Gresham, died on Jan. 9, 2014, in Gresham. She was 90 years of age. Monty was born on June 10, 1923, in Kalispell, Mont., and was the daughter of Glen and Nellie (McHenry) Gunderson. She graduated from Flathead County High School in 1940 and worked in the munitions plant in Salt Lake City and in Tacoma during WWII. Prior to the end of the war, she moved to Camas, Wash., where she worked as a bank clerk. On Jan. 13, 1946, she married Sidney "Si" Gorton in Camas and, shortly after, they moved to Oregon. They moved to East County in 1967 where Monty worked for the Multnomah Education Service District as an office assistant for the testing department. She retired in 1984 and enjoyed traveling in the RV with her husband, Si. Monty was a devoted wife, mom and grandma. She loved doting on her two granddaughters, playing bunco and pinochle and painting ceramics. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughters, Charmalee (Craig) Drew of Whitefish, Mont., and Karen (Robin) Lapeyre of Gresham; granddaughters, Jocelynn (Guillermo) Parra and Brianna Brown, all of Las Vegas; sister, Charlotte Crum of Washougal, Wash.; numerous nieces; and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Si; parents, Glen and Nellie; and sister, Donna. A celebration of Monty's life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham. A private inurnment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Monty to the Oregon Military Museum at Camp Withycombe, 15300 S.E. Industrial Way, Clackamas, OR 97105. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
