Nettie Francis Gosnell was born on January 15, 1909, in Landrum, South Carolina to Daisey Mae Vehorn, and George Washington Gosnell. She was their eighth child of thirteen.
She had one son, James Albert Fowler with her husband James Leonard Fowler. After his death, she wed Alvin "Bub" Johnson in 1929. She also raised her two grandsons, David Fowler and Terry Fowler.
She was a resident of Saluda, North Carolina, and passed away on October 16, 1984 at the age of 75.
