On September 7, 2013, Dr. Gordon S. Rosenberger, "Popi", went home to be with The Lord. After a long battle with cancer, Gordon died peacefully at his daughter's home in Orange, Virginia. A longtime resident of Rockville, Maryland, Dr. Rosenberger graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in 1939. In 1942 he graduated from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, then continued his education at Georgetown Medical School, receiving his Doctor of Medicine in 1945. Except for a brief respite from his practice during 1953-1955 when he served as a Captain in the U. S. Army, he practiced medicine as a General Practitioner on West Montgomery Avenue in Rockville for 41 years until his retirement in 1987. Gordon married his high school sweetheart, Mary (Polly) Richardson Prescott, in 1943. They were blessed with 2 daughters, Mary (Ricki) Richardson Rosenberger Strachan, residing in Orange, Virginia, with her husband Michael, and Teresa (Teri) Prescott Rosenberger Holland who lives in Baltimore, Maryland. Their union lasted 60 years until Polly's death in 2003. In 2005, Gordon and Barbara Smith Veirs were united in marriage. They resided at Brook Grove Retirement Village in Olney, Maryland, until Barbara's passing in 2012. Aside from his daughters, Dr. Rosenberger is survived by six grandchildren, Lisa Walter and her husband Todd, Albemarle, NC; Brian Holland and his wife Rachael, Westminster, MD; Todd Holland and his wife Mary, Baltimore, MD; Thomas Strachan and his wife Rhonda, Chesapeake, VA; Tammy Norton and her husband John, Bristow, VA; Michelle Brewer and her husband Chad, Westminster, CO; and 16 great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Dr. Rosenberger will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013, 2:00 p.m., at Ashton United Methodist Church, 17314 New Hampshire Avenue, Ashton, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
