Mrs. Audrey Lee Carter Collins, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Collins was born January 30, 1934, in Surry County, to the late John "Tott" and Mary Sparks Carter. She retired from Central Telephone as a service representive and was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Thomas "Wade" Collins of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randy and Suzanne Simmons Collins and Mark Lee Collins, all of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Brandon Neal Collins and his friend, Whitney Sprinkle, of Mount Airy, Sarah Collins Yopp and her husband, Russell, of Pilot Mountain, and Kristi Leigh Collins of Mount Airy; three great-grandchildren, Natalie Yopp, Brookelynn Yopp, and Madyson Collins; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Faye Carter of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by three sisters, Becky Collins Miller, Audene Collins Bennett, and Josephine Collins McCraw; and a brother, Eugene Carter. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 17, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Justin Nelson, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 16, 2014, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Roger Kerley and his staff, the staff at Piedmont Hematology-Oncology Associates, the staff at Northern Hospital of Surry County Emergency Department and 2nd east nursing staff, the Surry County EMS, staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, and Sandra and Brack Boyd, her caregivers.
