Irene J. (Jezek) Hendricks, 89, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Irene was born on January 24, 1924, in Iowa, one of seven daughters to Joseph and Augustina (Sedlacek) Jezek. She was a 1941 graduate of Conway High School and for two years, had attended Secretarial Business School in Des Moines. Irene was united in marriage to Glenn LeRoy Hendricks and to this union, two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren were born. For more than 30 years, Irene was employed as a bookkeeper and a sales representative with Central Distributors, Inc., of which she co-owned with her husband. She retired at the age of 79 on December 31, 2003. Irene was a PEO Sister, President of Hubbell Elementary PTA; and a former member of West Des Moines United Methodist Church. After her retirement, she volunteered countless hours at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and at Des Moines Art Center. In her spare time, Irene enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, baking pies, making jams and canning. She was an expert Polish Poker and at Wii Bowling.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Nan (Jack) Mercer of Minnetonka, MN; son, Scott (Sue) Hendricks of Clive; one sister, Louise Rainey of Lake City, MN; four grandchildren, Whitney (Mark) Giga, Jade (Erin) Mercer, Matt Hendricks and Amanda Hendricks; two great-grandchildren, Jack Giga and Madeline Giga; and many nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded into eternal life by her parents; husband, Glenn; and five sisters.
