MONROE CITY, Ind. - Elmer L. ABRASSART, 78, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday at his home. He was a sales representative for Kraft Foods of Chicago for 10 years and operated a Superax Inc. until his retirement in 1982. He then worked at Ramsey Orchard with his son. He was a World War II veteran with service in the 77th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater. He received three bronze service awards for amphibious landings on Japanese-held islands, the Pacific Service medal, Philippine Liberation Medal and Victory Medal. He was a member of Old Cathedral Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Vincennes American Legion Post 73, American Association of Retired Persons and the 77th Infantry Division, New York City. He trained and sold bird dogs. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Ilarose (Anderson); two daughters, Debbie Abrassart and Dr. Renee Abrassart, both of Monroe City; a son, Brad L. of Monroe City; and a brother, Chet of Casper, Wyo. Services will be at 3 p.m. EST today at Old Cathedral Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Trail Hospice.
