Ruth E. Starr, 86, of Main Street, Turbotville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg, where she had been living since August 2009.

Born in Comly, Montour County, on Jan. 13, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Clark and Mary (Yoder) Murray.

On Oct. 20, 1946, she married Charles C. Starr, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death on Aug. 18, 2007.

Ruth operated her own beauty shop out of her home for 40 years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, where she was very active with social ministry. She also was a member of the Turbotville Lioness Club.

Ruth loved animals, especially Brandy, her last companion at home. She enjoyed embroidering, practical jokes, cooking and spending time with her family. She coordinated many family gatherings and was a caregiver to her mother for many years.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda S. and Wayne Weaver, of Turbotville, and Wanda S. and Ed Ritter, of Denton, Md.; four grandchildren, the Rev. Andrew Weaver and his wife, Meghan, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Jodi Weaver, of Watsontown, Neil Ritter, of Preston, Md., and Kristy Starr Ritter, of Denton, Md.; and four great-grandchildren, Olivia Weaver, Jack Weaver, Julia Townley and Alyssa Starr Bowen. She also had a special place in her heart for Nancy Musso, Linda's college roommate, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her husband were seven brothers, Clarence, Paul, H. Walter, S.T., Harold, Willis and Domer, and a sister, Helen Hoffman.

Friends are invited to call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 10275 Route 44, Watsontown, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday with her pastor, the Rev. Dan May, officiating. Burial will follow in Turbotville Cemetery.

The family will provide flowers and suggests contributions in Ruth's memory be made to the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 6, Turbotville, PA 17772.
