Will Johnstone emigrated, with his father and mother, from Canada to California in 1890 at age 21. He became a citrus farmer, speaker pro-tem of the California legislature, a banker and led the state Water Commission and Los Angeles Civil Service Commission. He married Alice Eugenia Bost in 1902. They had three daughters, Margaret, Dorothy and Elizabeth (Jean). In 1937 Alice and Will traveled to Canada, partly on business and partly to visit relatives. Will died of a heart attack in Winnipeg. His daughter Margaret and wife Alice returned his remains to the U.S.
