GEORGE C. WHALEY'S DEATH
The sudden Taking of a Well Known Verona Man
VERONA, Sept 29 -- The sudden death of George C. Whaley about 1 p.m. yesterday was a shock to the community. Death was caused by heart trouble, though it was not known that he was suffering from this disease and he had apparently been in his usual health. Mr. Whaley had been at work in his corn lot during the morning, but complained of feeling ill and did not eat any dinner. When the members of his family had finished the noon meal he went out on the back porch. Suddenly he reeled and fell and never regained consciousness. Dr. H. P. Johnson was immediately summoned, but Mr. Whaley had died almost instantly. Mr. Whaley was a prominent and influential citizen. He was 53 years of age and the only son of Francis and Susannah Whaley, and was born February 22, 1848, on the farm which he had spent most of his life. He had for many years belonged to the Masonic fraternity and was also a member of the Maccabees, and at the time of his death was a member of the board of education on the Verona Union School. Of a genial and pleasant disposition, Mr. Whaley was one who possessed many friends, among whom he will be sadly missed. Besides the widow he leaves two daughters, Mrs. W. E. Sloane of Frankfort and Mrs. H. D. Beaver of New York, and three sisters, Mrs. James Allen of Constableville, Mrs. Harvey E. Hall and Mrs. Charles H. Warren of Verona.
