THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana

The remains of Ned VANDEVENTER, who died last Friday in Camp Shelby, at Hattiesburg, Miss., were brought to his home in Highland Township, Sunday.

His father, William{Winfield S.} VANDEVENTER, who had started for Hattiesburg on learning of his son's illness, did not reach there until after Ned died. He was recovering from the measles and was attacked with a severe pain in the head, near his right ear. To relieve this pain an operation was performed but he died soon after recovering from the anesthetic.

Mr. VANDEVENTER brought the body of his son home, arriving Sunday.

The funeral was held Monday forenoon at 10 o'clock at the church at Calvertville by Rev. REYNOLDS, of Farmers, assisted by the Odd Fellows and Red Men to which orders the deceased belonged. There was a large attendance.

The body was laid to rest in the Goodwin Cemetery south of Calvertville.

Ned VANDEVENTER, the first Greene county soldier boy to die while in the service of his country, was aged twenty-two years and was a splendid young man, highly respect by all who knew him.

He leaves a father, brother and several younger brothers and sisters to mourn his untimely departure.
