Col Buck died in Columbus on Sunday. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1948 due to ill health and made his home in Clearwater Park, Alleghany County VA. He was employed by Westvaco after his Army retirement and then became a teacher in the Covington public schools.
He was a graduate of Augusta Military Academy, Staunton, VA. the United States Military Academy, the Infantry School and Tank School,Fort Benning GA and the Air Command and Staff School, Maxwell Field AL.
He was born in Lenoir City TN and moved to Covington VA in 1915, making his home in Covington until 1948. During his Army service he served three campaigns and received five US decorations, two foreign decorations and numerous campaigns dn service medals and commendations. After returning from overseas duty, he served for some time with the Army Chief of Staff.
Other than his wife, Frances M Morgan Buck: he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Neville) Butcher, 1010 Oak Lee Drive, Troy, Ohio; a son McDonald Buck 3400 Wheatwheel Lane, Annandale and two brothers, McDonald Buck, Logan WV and Thomas Ashby Buck, Atlanta, GA.
