Ben Calamello, 81, owner and operator of the Liberty Fruit Market, died at 8:45 Tuesday in St.Marys hospital. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 9:30 am Friday at St.Pats with burial in Calvary cemetery.
He was born in Tricario, Italy, a son of Anthony and Rose Paradisco Calamello. He came to Decatur from Italy in 1908. He owned and operated Liberty Fruit Market which had been located on E.Wood st. since 1939. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic church.
He married Mary Scandello, Aug. 13, 1914 in Decatur. Surviving are his wife, sons, Nick of Decatur, Anthony of Westerville, Ohio and Paul of Dalhart, Tex, daughters, Rose Tomacci of San Jose, Calif. and Mrs. Richard (Lee) Ott of Chicago and seven grandchildren.
