Lilly Rose "Rosie" Taylor, age 96, died Jan. 9, 2014, at Hospice of the Valley Sherman Home in Scottsdale, Ariz. Her home was the Powell House in Payson, Ariz.

Rosie was born Lilly Rose Tingley on Oct. 26, 1917, in Fort Benton. She was the ninth of 10 children of Mary Lucette Shea and John J. Tingley. Rosie is a descendant of the Tingleys who settled in northcentral Montana. The Tingley family ranched in Chouteau County, near Big Sandy, and were involved in the river freighting business on the Missouri River in the 20s and 30s.

Rosie moved to Kalispell, where she graduated from Flathead County High School in 1935. She then worked as a seamstress and a cook in Kalispell, Boulder, and Butte.

Rosie married Jack Sammons in Butte, and had four children, Donna Lee, Richard Grove, Jerry Rae, and Jack Sammons Jr.

Jack Sammons Sr. enlisted in the U.S. Army and was killed in action in Okinawa, Japan, April 1941. He was awarded the Silver Star in 1945. In 1950, Rose married Mervin Leo Paige, at Sacred Heart Church, in Butte and had one child, Lois Irene Paige. Mervin worked for the Anaconda Copper Mining Co. and the family lived at 415 W. Galena St. in Uptown Butte.

Mervin passed away in 1961.

In 1965, Rosie married Richard "Dick" Taylor, and lived at 130 S. Excelsior St., in Butte. Dick was part owner of Taylor-McDonnell Construction Co., having built St. Ann's Church, a number of schools, and public buildings. Rosie and Dick ran a dog kennel boarding business, "Tadroh Kennels," on Longfellow Street. They kept horses, and bred and trained English pointers. They were members of the Treasure State Pointer and Setter Club and Butte Gun Club and participated in trap and skeet competitions in Montana, Arizona, and other western states. Upon retiring, they divided their time between Montana and Arizona. Rosie's favorite trips included Tahiti, New Zealand, Hawaii, and Alaska. In 1994, Rose and Dick settled into a permanent residence in Payson, after briefly living in Mesa, Ariz.

Richard Taylor passed away Jan. 10, 2004.

Rosie was a member of the Butte Elks Lodge No. 240, and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Drum Corps in Butte. She was an avid bowler for several Butte bowling teams over the years, maintaining a high bowling average. Rosie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping and was the "life of the party." She had a fun sense of humor, and regaled family and friends with her funny, entertaining stories. She was an avid foodie and a great cook. Rosie had a deep love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Rosie is survived by her children, Richard Sammons and wife, Sonvy of Bismarck. N.D.; Jack Sammons; and Lois Paige Simenson and husband, Marc of Eagle River, Alaska; grandchildren, Christina Lee Walsh, Felicia Ann Correa, Matthew Walsh, Kaitlin Rose Simenson, Rebecca Elaine Simenson, Paige Ann Heddins, Tina May Roper, Kirsten E. Razzone, and Heather Marit Sammons; nieces, Colleen and Valerie Tingley; nephew, Dan Tingley; great-grandchildren; and dear friends whom Rosie considered family, Allan Fisher and John Moody of Payson.

Rosie was preceded in death by her brother, Ken Tingley, of Portland, Ore.; her parents, Mary L. and John J. Tingley; eight other siblings; husbands, Jack Sammons, Mervin Paige, and Richard Taylor; and two of her five children, Jerry Sammons Osterman, and Donna Sammons Walsh.

In keeping with Rose's wishes there will be no services held.
