Amelia "Emily" R.
Amelia "Emily" Rita Olszewski, 87 years, of Toledo and a former longtime resident of Temperance, MI passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014, in The Toledo Hospital. She was a cafeteria worker for GM Powertrain for 22 years. Emily was born September 29, 1926, in Toledo to Polish immigrant John and Charlette "Lottie" (Iwinski) Sulewski. In 1929, she and her family moved to a 41 acre farm on Rauch Road in Temperance. She worked at Jeep during WWII, installing seat cushions and inspecting firing pins. She met her future husband, Larry Olszewski, while working at Jeep in 1944, and they were married in 1946 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Temperance.
Emily is survived by her 6 loving children, Sherry (Skip) Hargrove, Huron, OH; Gloria (Greg) Pappas, Plymouth, MI; Karen (Tom) Johnson, Pittsford, MI; Dennis (Judy) Olszewski, Taylors, SC; Mary Ann (Jeff) Lisiakowski, Temperance; Laurie (Kevin) Joly, Temperance; brother, Leonard Sulewski; sister-in-law, Ursula Sulewski; 16 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Olszewski; sisters, Delores Stark, Phyllis Nyitray; infant sister, Virgie; brothers, Louis and Frank Sulewski.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 15, 2014, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. in Urbanski's Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Avenue Temperance, MI. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 16, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church where she will lie in state after 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
