Mr. Jack White of Slocomb passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at his home after an extended illness. He was 81.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, in Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Slocomb with the Revs. Johnny Strickland and A. E. Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Fadette Assembly of God Church Cemetery. The body will be ready for viewing at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday and the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to East Geneva County Senior Citizens, P.O. Box 321, Slocomb, AL 36375; Fadette Assembly of God Church, 5161 South State Highway 103, Slocomb, AL 36375; or to Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Suite 110, Dothan, AL 36301.

Mr. White was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Geneva County to the late Elijah and Mary Candis (Hinson) White. He was a member of Fadette Assembly of God Church. He was also a member of the East Geneva County Senior Citizens in Slocomb, where he served on the board for 25 plus years. He was a World War II veteran, notary public for 53 years, Geneva County commissioner from 1979-1982, director of the Housing Authority from 1965-1969, a retired Civil Servant, and a member of many civic organizations.

His wife, Katreen White; his parents; three brothers, Jim, Dewey and Rush White; three sisters, Nettie Mills, Mamie Bottoms and Clyde Graves; as well as one grandson, Micah White, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Willis White; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean Crawson (Alvin) Bonifay, Fla., Martha Noyes (Michael) of Columbus, Ga., Wanda Crawford (Lamar) of Slocomb; four sons and daughters-in-law, Joel White (Patsy) of Headland, Ricky White (Martha) of Slocomb, Jerry White (Gayle) of Luverne, Johnny White (Connie) of Pansey; three stepchildren, Niki Cooper (Tom) of Chattanooga, Tenn., Anne Knight of Rehobeth, Don Willis (Debra) of Rehobeth; 14 grandchildren, Gina Akridge (John), Eric Crawson (Deeann), Duane Crawson (Niki), Rob White, Jana Currie (Eddie), Mike Noyes (Erin), Eric Noyes, Amanda Smith (Thad), Gerid White, Kristin Sims (Josh), Jennifer Hamilton (Matt), Jessica Hall (David), Natalie McCord (Dennis), Chip White; four stepgrandchildren, Denise Woodham, Thomas Knight (Sheila), Brad Knight (Victoria), Melissa Willis; 13 great-grandchildren, Brittany and Ethan Akridge, Ericka, Kimberly, and Corey Crawson, Emily and Katherine Currie, Jack Noyes, Molly, Jack, Kellon, and Claire Smith, and soon-to-be Taylor Lee McCord; several nieces and nephews.

Grandsons Eric Crawson, Duane Crawson, Rob White, Mike Noyes, Eric Noyes, Gerid White, and Chip White will serve as pallbearers.

The East Geneva County Senior Citizens of Slocomb and the Fadette Assembly of God adult Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
