DAKOTA - Leroy R. Boos, 81, of Dakota died at noon Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2001, at Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport.
He was born Jan. 5, 1920, in Freeport to Arthur and Barbara (Martin) Boos. On Aug. 30, 1941, he amd Lois M. Daughenbaugh were married.
Leroy attended Freeport High School and later earned his GED while serving in the military.
He served in the Navy during World War II from May 24, 1944, to June 28, 1946, and for his service, was awarded the Purple Heart American Area Ribbon with two Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Star and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
Prior to his retirement, he was a shipping clerk at Modern Plating Co.
Surviving family members include his wife; one daughter, Karla (Larry) Toelke of Rock City; two sons, Gerald (Jerilyn) Boos of Dakota and Harlan (Gayle) Boos of Rock City; nine grandchildren, Kris (Steve) DeHaven of Rock City, Andrea (Josh) Tregoning of Evansville, Wis., Joe (Brooke), Christopher (Jenny) Eric Boos, all of Rockford, Russell Boos of Brooklyn, N.Y., Maren Boos of Dakota, and Sarah and Noah Boos of Rock City; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alberta Smith of Freeport.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Visiting hours are from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 115 S. West St. in Dakota.
Cremation rites then will be accorded and a private graveside service will be held at Ridott cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
