Dennis Wayne Stanley Sr., 65, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord and his wife on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He was born on April 27, 1948 in Roanoke to the late Alfred Napolean Stanley, Sr., and Dimple Lee Scaggs Stanley.

He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard and Army Reserves; retiring with 22 years of honorable service. Following his military career, he became employed with the city of Salem as an assistant building inspector and master plumber, where he also retired with honorable and dedicated service. In addition to his working careers, his faithfulness was extended to his faith in Jesus Christ and his membership to Gospel Baptist Church in Salem. Dennis enjoyed playing golf and traveling was certainly on the top of his list of pleasurable things in life, but above all he will be remembered as a loving husband of 43 years of faithful marriage, as well as a loving father/coach to his two sons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia Lynn Stanley. Family left to cherish his memory includes his sons, Michael (Mike) Stanley and wife, Nikki, and Dennis Stanley, Jr.; brothers, Alfred Stanley, Jr., and wife Joyce, and Jeff Stanley and wife, JoEllen; sisters, Sherry Cup and husband, Albert, and Bonnie Glover and husband, Arville; grandchildren, Tyler, Emma, Ryan, Jacob, Ryleigh, and Addison; special friends, Charlotte Robinson, Mike, and Kathy. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. A memorial service to honor Mr. Stanley will be conducted on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.johnmoakey.com.
