Professional Football Player. Former Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive linesman. Courson was a 1972 graduate of Gettysburg High School and a 1976 graduate of the University of South Carolina. After leaving U.S.C. he made the Steelers team in 1978 as a free agent guard. He started more than half of the Steelers' games before he was traded to Tampa Bay in 1984. He ended his career in 1985, having played in two Steelers' Super Bowl Championship games in 1978 and 1979. Courson was also the author of "False Glory" and testified before Congress on steroid use in the NFL. He blamed his brief steroid use for his former heart condition that placed him on a transplant list. Courson credited diet and exercise with reversing that condition. At the time of his death he was a speaker on the lecture circuit educating audiences about the issues of steroid use and benefits of physical fitness.
