Cynthia Kane Bender, 77, of Pocono Pines died Thursday, Jan. 31, of complications from chemotherapy for colon cancer at the Geisinger Wyoming Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre.
She was a vacation resident of Lake Naomi in Pocono Pines for nearly 40 years and was a full-time resident for the past three years.
Cynthia was an avid golfer and tennis player. She will be remembered for her endless energy, enthusiasm, sense of humor, love for life, and the selfless giving of herself to others. She made the community a better place. As one person said about her, "She brought sunshine into a dark room, love to people who felt ignored, and a spirit of "let's get it done" to people who needed a boost. She will remain a spirit of support and guidance to me, wherever I go."
Cynthia was a longtime resident of Swarthmore, where she was active in Swarthmore Presbyterian Church serving multiple terms as an elder and a deacon. She sang in the choir and was a Stephen minister. She was active in the community serving on the boards of the Swarthmore Swim Club and Swarthmore Recreational Association.
