Layton, Utah

Matthew Shawn Koontz passed away on January 4, 2014 in Saudi Arabia. Born August 14, 1959 in Sacramento, California to Dwight and Mary Iles Koontz. Shawn lived in many locations throughout his life including California, Utah, Minnesota, South Carolina, Tennessee, and, most recently, Saudi Arabia.

As a young man, Shawn served an LDS mission in the England London South Mission. On March 7, 1981, Shawn married his wife, Anne Whitlock, in the Oakland, California LDS Temple.

Shawn was a mechanical engineer by trade but enjoyed camping, backpacking, fixing cars, and playing video games in his down time. He loved the ocean, building things, and Dutch oven cooking. Shawn could always be counted on to bring a stupid joke to any conversation.

Shawn is survived by his wife Anne; sons: Dwight (Becca) Koontz; Preston (Whitney) Koontz; daughters: Crystal, Alexis and Felicia Koontz; siblings: David (Kathleen), Janet, Richard (Linda), and Charles (Janet). He will be greatly missed by his three grandchildren, Rachel, Michael and Connor.
