Robert served as a Staff Sergeant & Engineer on B-24E #41-28463, 765th Bomber Squadron, 461st Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Rutland County, Vermont prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 12, 1942 in Rutland, Vermont. He was noted as being employed as a Machinist and also as Single, with dependents.

Robert died in the "Line Of Duty" when his B-24 crashed during a training mission in Kings Canyon National Park, Hester Lake, California during the war. The crash was believed to have been caused due to extreme weather conditions.

The entire crew was "missing" until they were discovered by geologists on July 17, 1960.
