Clarence was 33 years, 9 months, 3 days when he passed away on November 14, 1918 from influenza and bronchial pneumonia. He was the oldest of five children born to Albert Newton Hedgpeth and Julia Prudence Texana (Raney). His sibling were: Prudence Pearl, Jessie Julia, Maybell Margaret, and Matt McDowell. At the time of his death he worked as a locomotive engineer.

He was married to Mamie E Steiner. They had four children: Clarence Elisworth, Belden Steiner, Cecil Newton, and Raymond Stanley.

Some time around 1910 he left California with his father, Albert and brother, Matt. They each homesteaded 160 acres in what is now known as Thunderbird Park. The hills in the park are named after them. The rest of the family followed later.

Clarence remained in Arizona until his death. He was survived by his wife and four children, and was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery on Nov 21, 1918 under the direction of Moore & McLellan.
